Galway Baroque Singers will present a concert of varied choral music in aid of the Irish Hospice Foundation in St. Mary’s Church, The Claddagh on Thursday 28th June.

The programme will consist of sacred motets, operatic choruses, Gilbert & Sullivan excerpts and popular modern pieces. The singers have enjoyed the last few weeks rehearsing with Musical Director Audrey Corbett and accompanist Morgan Cooke.

Two of the choir members, Gerry McGrath and Fin Garvey are endeavouring to raise a minimum of €2,000 each in aid of the Irish Hospice Foundation’s Nurses for Nightcare Programme by cycling a distance of 660 km from Lyon to Nice.

They are hoping tocomplete a five day cycle that will bring them along part of the Tour de France route; the men will spend up to ten hours a day cycling in intense heat along a route that includes several hills and valleys and a 21 km constant incline.

The men say “we are funding the cost of the trip ourselves in addition to the €2,000 minimum target wemust raise and we are being supported by our friends in Galway Baroque Singers who will host a fundraising concert later this month in aid of the cycling challenge”

The concert commences at 8.30 pm and tickets, priced €10 will be on sale at the door.
