Pirouetting parrots, dancing ducks, flouncing flowers and a very Mad Hatter are all heading to the Town Hall Theatre in Galway on Thursday 5th and Friday 6th of July. They’re performing in a marvellous new dance production, Alice Underground, which will be of huge appeal to families visiting Galway for the Volvo Ocean Race.

Youth Ballet West premiers its dazzling new ballet, ‘Alice Underground’ in the Town Hall Theatre in Galway, during the Volvo Ocean Race 2012. Conceived and choreographed by Claire Lillis and Judith Sibley, Alice Underground is an exciting, modern interpretation of Lewis Carroll’s classic tales, Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. Together they have taken key elements from these stories and created an inspired masterpiece.

Audiences will delight in the imaginative choreography, the fabulous costumes and award winning dancers. Young and old will be amazed by the spectacular costumes and special lighting effects.

According to Artistic Director, Judith Sibley, “Youth Ballet West features twenty five of Ireland’s most talented young dancers from Galway, Ennis, Athlone and Roscommon. This outstanding young ballet company is unrivalled in the West of Ireland in its excellence and Alice Underground is a great opportunity to see the dance stars of the future”.

Sibley herself is one of Ireland’s most prestigious ballet artists and she is successfully guiding these young dancers to truly realise their dreams. Founded only five years ago by Judith and her sister Phyllis, Youth Ballet West has already had eight former members accepted into top dance schools abroad and another group will follow in their footsteps this year.

Alice Underground promises to be one of the quirkiest and fun theatrical events this year. It is sure to be a thrilling treat for all the family so do book early as it is guaranteed to sell out. Tickets available from Town Hall Theatre Galway 091 569777
