Welcome to the eighth Westside Arts Festival!

The Festival kicks off at 5.30pm on Friday the 20th of July 2012 outside Westside Library, with the opening ceremony followed by the Talent Show, which has always proved very successful for the young talent of Westside to shine. Workshops will run on Saturday from 12 noon until 5 :00 PM.

The Festival is a community based event which aims to promote and celebrate the spirit and people of Westside through the arts. It aims to bring local people together by showcasing art and a range of educational activities in local community spaces. Each year the Festival takes a theme that helps to strengthen our community and bring us together. This year’s theme is ‘Intergenerational Fun’, promoting shared learning between generations within our community. Grandparents, parents, children and grandchildren from the community can all participate in workshops together sharing skills and learning from one another in a safe, fun and relaxed way. The Festival programme includes a variety of creative workshops, activities and performances for local children, youth and adults. There will be free workshops in art, dance, storytelling, music, instrument making, samba drumming, flower arranging, hip hop, break-dancing, circus skills, arts and crafts, card making, patchwork quilting, gardening, zumba and face painting to mention but a few! This year’s finale will be a spectacular performance and workshops by Galway Community Circus. We look forward to seeing you all there! The Westside Arts Festival committee would like to thank our funders, sponsors, our two local committee members (Trish O’Donoghue and Nichola Tierney) and everyone who helped to make this festival possible.

Many thanks to Hillary and Jessica who created such wonderful designs for the Festival poster.

We would especially like to say a huge thank you to our wonderful volunteers without whom this festival would not be possible. Finally a special thank you to the local Community of Westside, the art groups, artists, performers, poets, storytellers and facilitators for making this a magical community celebration. We hope you enjoy your community festival.
