Life Lessons from the Great Books
Life Lessons from the Great Books. On this Tuesday night, Sanja Bentz, a young student from the Saarland University, Saarbruecken, Germany continues her series of talks in Galway City Library entitled Life Lessons from the Great Books. For this event Sanja will look at the perils and merits of revenge in Shakespeare’s Hamlet The greatest lesson to be learned from Hamlet, we will find, is this: Move on — vengeance will change nothing. Sanja will also examine the ideas of pride and honour, at how Ajax, the tragedy by Sophocles, teaches us that even the best human qualities can become destructive when pushed to excess. Based on course material provided by Professor J. Rufus Fears of the University of Oklahoma, Sanja’s series of talks hope to show you how some of Western civilization’s greatest literary masterpieces can speak to you and provide guidance in your life across the gulf of time and culture. The event takes place in Galway City Library on this Tuesday night July 24th at 6.00pm and finishes at about 6.45pm.
