Morley & Lawrence: Concert in Portumna’s Church of Ireland
Portumna Arts Group are delighted to host an Acoustic Singing Gig with two London based rising stars and Singer/Songwriters, Jake Morley & Liz Lawrence. As part of their current tour of UK and Ireland, Portumna’s Church of Ireland will provide an intimate backdrop for an acoustic and cosy gig on Saturday Aug 4th at 8.30pm. Doors will open at 8pm and admission at the door is €10. Seating is limited and with local support act, Knoeline Keane, Portumna’s own Singer/Songwriter, this will appeal to all music and singing fans.
Liz Lawrence makes exciting and honest acoustic music. Still only 21, Liz writes mature sculpted songs with instant melodic hooks and lyrics that talk to her listeners with honesty and compassion. With her publishing already snapped up by SonyATV, her debut album ‘Bedroom Hero’ is now out in Ireland and is getting plenty of radio play. A 3-track live studio EP, ‘Live From No. 82’ has just been released worldwide on Young & Lost.
“Florence-minus-the-hollering, stomping stage routine hinting at a feisty little madam beneath the adorable, heavy fringe-adorned veneer, promising a new starlet in the making“- Q magazine
Constantly gigging in London and starting to push out further afield, Liz has supported artists such as Scouting for Girls, Xavier Rudd, Ben Howard, Brooke Fraser, Young the Giant, Yoav, The Civil Wars, and one of her idols Ani Difranco, who commented on Liz as “a beautiful artist who lives on the edge“.
Jake Morley is a supremely talented and charismatic performer. Following the release of his debut album with accompanying live DVD, he played a sold out headline gig to an ecstatic crowd at the Jazz Café as part of HMV Next Big Thing 2012. He followed it up with a 15 date headline UK tour and is now getting ready for a full schedule of summer festivals, his first Irish tour and a run of gigs in France.
Jake’s intriguing lap tapping guitar style, his strong songs and engaging performances convert initially curious audiences into ardent fans at every gig.
Jake says “I love writing but I’m at my happiest on a stage performing with my amazing band. I’ve met wonderful people who come to my gigs so I’m really looking forward to everything we’ve got planned for the coming year.”
“It’s phenomenal to watch him but it’s still more daunting to consider that he also sings up a storm and writes cracking songs. Morley is a true original”. Acoustic Magazine. His Album & DVD: Many Fish To Fry is on release.
