FILM SCHOOL : Learn the basics in 7 weekends (Just 1 place left)
This practical course will guide participants through all of the steps involved in making a short film. Tutored by industry professionals, the course offers a hands-on, step by step approach that will take a small group of 8 participants from a starting idea to a finished film. The course runs for seven weekends during which two short films will be devised, scripted, shot and edited.

This course is suited to: those who wish to try to seek work in the film industry at an entry level, those who wish to know what goes on behind the scenes in film-making, or those who wish to study film at college. Topics covered will include:
    •    Production
    •    Scriptwriting
    •    Camera & lighting
    •    Direction
    •    Sound
    •    Editing    

Dates: 14 days (7 Saturdays & 7 Sundays from 9.45am – 4.45pm each day): Feb 9th/10th, Feb 16th/17th, Feb 23rd/24th, Mar 2nd/3rd, Mar 9th/10th, Mar 23rd/24th, April 6th/7th 2013. Note there is no class on bank holiday weekends.
Cost: €600 unwaged/€700 waged. Early Bird Discount of €50 if you pay in full by January 18th. Includes membership to Galway Film Centre. Limited to 8 places so early booking is advised.

How to Make a Documentary (Just 1 place left)
Over five weeks*, this course will introduce beginners to all the elements involved in making a documentary film. Through a mixture of theory and practical work, experienced documentary maker, Jill Beardsworth, will guide eight participants to make a short documentary. Modules covered will include:
* Genres of documentary
* Research
* Proposal writing & Pitching
* Camera (Tutor: Experienced Documentary Maker, Keith Walsh)
* Interview Techniques
* Sound
* Production, including budgets
* Editing

* Course takes place on four Saturdays and two Sundays from 9.45am – 4.45pm and five Wednesday Evenings from 6.30pm – 9.30pm.

Dates: Week 1: Sat Jan 26th, Wed Jan 30th, Week 2: Sun Feb 3rd, Wed Feb 6th, Week 3: Sat Feb 9th, Wed Feb 13th, Week 4: Sat Feb 16th, Sun Feb 17th, Wed Feb 20th, Week 5: Sat Feb 23rd, Wed Feb 27th, 2013.
Cost: €400 unwaged/€450 waged. Includes membership to the Centre for the year.

About the Tutor: Jill Beardsworth is an experienced film-maker and editor who has made documentaries for RTÉ, TG4 and the Irish Film Board including films shot in Belarus, Kosovo, Ireland, India and Syria. Her most recent feature, Apples of Golan, which she co-directed with Keith Walsh, premiered at Jameson Dublin International Film Festival this year. Jill has had her films officially selected for several international film festivals.
