Galway City is renowned for its live music scene. While nearly every Pub in Galway hosts live music at some point, many pubs have live music on a weekly and in some cases a daily basis. Most music styles can be heard somewhere if you look hard enough. In this article we have left out traditional Irish music pubs from this article because they have their own section.
The Roisin Dubh
Undisputed King of the live music scene in Galway City. Diverse range of music styles. Open until 2am nightly.
The Kings Head
Popular spot with nightly rock cover bands all week with Dj’s at the weekends .
The Cellar
Two venues- Upstairs and downstairs. In the 1970’s an Irish music hotspot but nowadays plays host to covers bands and many one off gigs of various styles including a regular open mic night.
Sally Longs
Home of punk and hard core rock in Galway City. Sallys has been flying the flag for hardcore for over 20 years.

Large purpose built music venue in the Westend of Galway City. Music several nights a week
The Quays Live
Upstairs at the Quays is the place to go for the slightly older crowd. Local favourites such as the Conquerors still draw in the crowds. Covers bands and occasionally tribute bands
The Spanish Arch
Covers bands at the weekendsas well as some Irish music midweek.
The Crane
Although well known as an Irish music mecca they have branched out in recent years to singer songwriters and folk music

Taaffes Bar
You are sure to catch a traditional Irish music session in progress in Taaffes at any time of the day or night. The bar’s location in the middle of the main shopping throughfare ensures a busy daytime pub where the ceol and the craic take precedence. This corner pub has a beautiful Victorian façade from the 1800’s, Consisting of two levels, the bar on the ground floor is a local favourite while upstairs comes alive every night for music sessions at 9.30pm. Even though the Crane is tucked away in the West end of the City it is the first stop for many music lovers on their visit to the City due to its reputation as a live music venue. Tigh Coili
Tigh Coili Pub in Galway City is one of the most popular bars in Galway and is famous for its traditional Irish Music sessions. Tig Coili is at the end of the main shopping street in Galway and is full of atmosphere. Tigh Coili has no TV’s or pool tables to distract you from the excellent Irish music and craic where you are likely to see well known artists like Sharon Shannon join the session.
